Story of Herbal H2O: Herb infused water

Why to reinforce new habits of consuming extra medicines or herbs to prevent any illness or make immunity strong, if you can consume it daily by just drinking water. Don’t worry! It tastes exactly the same as your normal water at home. Fascinating, right? Yes, Herbal H20 is that novel product which not only quenches your thirst but also adds medicinal value to your body.

Here is the story behind this venture which is a classic example of a combination of innovation and sustainable development.

The Young Innovator

Mr. Prateek Patel, founder of Srishti Lifescience, the man behind Herbal H20 was always a science enthusiast and used to work on water projects since his school days. He was also honored with the title of “Young Scientists” for the project “Harness water resources for better future” on 13th National Children Science Congress by then President Mr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. He believes that to do a successful business, it requires a great commercial knowledge as well as legal knowledge, and thus he pursued CA after his school. He has worked with various pharmaceuticals such as Sunpharma to get an understanding of the reaction of medicines in the body. This motivated him to develop a Wellness product and the efforts resulted in today’s well known brand Herbal H20.

Herbal H20 – Commercializing domestic practices

The inception of the idea came from the domestic habits of consuming ‘Kadhas’ and mint water at home. “If you are investing 10 sec of your life to drink water, we don’t want to just quench your thirst but also want to deliver some additional benefits by using the water as medium”, says Prateek. Herbal H20 is a multipurpose product which aims to become the medium for transporting natural medicinal values of herbs such as ‘Tulsi’ or ‘Mint’ in the body by just drinking their water. At the same time it focuses on reducing usage of plastic bottles by providing water through glass bottles which get reuse.

Their USP is the ‘Cost’. By reducing and reusing the material, it becomes affordable to consumers by just costing MRP of Rs.80 per liter in the market which is very much low as compared to others which accounts for Rs.220 per liter.

So how does the supplement of herbs added in Herbal H20 benefit you?

– Brahmi Herbal Water – This water is especially for students as it contains Brahmi extract which increases your nervous strength and gives boost to your brain to work with more efficiency.

– Tulsi Water – This contains tulsi extract which makes your blood circulation so regular that your immune system will be 2x of the other person.

– Mint Infused water – It protects you from heat waves and strokes, boosts your capacity to deal with environmental changes.

Their current clients include Statue of Unity, Taj Hotel, Leela Hotel and resorts such as Clark Exotica. They are also planning to expand their services overseas by this December.

Herbal H20 – Foster Sustainable development

They have successfully implemented the first 100% EPR based glass bottling delivery system in India, which means no bottle will go to the dustbin and each and every bottle will definitely be reused. Another noteworthy step by them is that they don’t sell bottles from their plant but instead install packaging machines at consumer’s venues. Bottle after consumption of water is collected and again re-used after sterilization for packaging. This way gets two benefits, on one side they are reducing transportation cost and on the other hand are reducing wastage of packaging materials.

Also they have their own patented purification system that neither reduces TDS of water nor generates any drop of reduced water which means you get all required minerals and there is no wastage of water at all.

“Without sustainability, we will end up in disaster”, says Prateek. He believes that this is the right time, we must think out of the box, innovate the process of business or product development without degrading product quality or consumer comfort.

No journey is a bed of roses

Whenever you start any new venture, challenges are bound to come. The first and foremost obstacle in front of the Herbal H20 was the ‘behavioral challenge’ of consumers. India had no trend of herbs infused water previously, so the task lied in educating the customer about the scientific product and its importance. The second barrier was ‘cultural challenge’ by competitors. They had to reduce the use of plastic and implement glass packed products, at the same time have to keep up with viable prices and operations to make it affordable for consumers. Today they stand strong as an example in front of the world on how one can blend innovation and wellness for not only people but also for the environment.

Must for all upcoming Entrepreneurs

Mr. Patel says,” Dig your brain much deeper, there will always be a way to do good sustainable or environmental friendly things in a much more cost effective way than existing products. Innovate your supply chains or process; it is very much possible to do eco-friendly things.”
