YUVALAY: Moulding the young minds

What do you think are more important- grades or skills?

Well, grades are just a validation to your theoretical knowledge and is a test of your memory whereas skills decide your survival in the industry. And what if you get the opportunity to learn all vital skills at one place? Astonishing, right?

Yuvalay is one such social venture for all budding minds out there who want to explore their potential and learn important skills to overcome the challenges that exist in the professional arena.

Man behind the initiative- Yuvalay

Generally, the retirement plans of any individual would be spending time with family, going on vacations and enjoying life. But Mr. Harmanbhai Patel had quite a different plan. He believed in giving back to the society by investing his hard earned money. He thought of utilizing his time in the development of youth, and hence, Yuvalay was found. He is a management graduate with more than 35 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry with an exceptional journey of being a product manager at Alembic Pharma, to getting retired as the President of API business at Zydus Cadila.

The stepping stone for Yuvalay

Yuvalay was established in 2014 to provide a platform for students to learn and excel in terms of skills and relevant industrial exposure. It has a prominent team of professional trainers and motivational speakers who guide students towards excellence. Yuvalay inspires students to see the world beyond books. It offers various types of courses and programs, all free of cost such as-

– Effective Communication

– Positive Attitude

– Leadership

– Find your passion and purpose

– Interpersonal skills and many more.

Yuvalay has trained 8000 students and has completed more than 37000 training hours from 2017-2020.

The Triggering point

Behind every initiative is a story that inspires one to accomplish it and Yuvalay was no different. Mr. Patel’s first inspiration was his father. Being a teacher, he had always worked towards shaping the youth. The seed of establishing a development center for youth was sown during the 80s when Harmanbhai Patel was a member of JCI (Junior Chamber International), and was in charge of individual development activity for a year. He used to interact with many students during that time and they used to tell him how beneficial the programs were. He felt touched, and that’s when he decided, “If I do well in my life, I should do something for youth development”.

An arduous journey of yuvalay

After the establishment of Yuvalay, it was not that tough to get professionals from the industry together. The real challenge comprised in reaching out to students. Initially, Mr. Patel and team started approaching people through word of mouth and marketing but they didn’t receive responses as per their expectations. Then they went to different colleges and organized various programs for students by contacting the dean and teachers. That’s when students started showing interest, and approached the organization from their end. The media also played a great role in encouraging students. Today Yuvalay stands strong with their mission to empower youth in upcoming years.

Yuvalay’s Innovative initiative

What if you get the opportunity to visit and get insights of the industry for a day? Seems exciting!Yearn to Learn Y2L is one such program by Yuvalay started in2017 where they collaborate with different companies to give students a chance to understand the working of the professional world by organizing a one-day industrial visit, interaction sessions with experts and opportunities to get mentored by them.

Campus to Corporate

Mr. Patel says that the second phase of a student starts when they step into the college, as it is a crucial time when one should mould them to face the real world. Although students have a great academic background, they face struggles when they step into the workforce. The journey from campus to corporate requires more than just bookish knowledge. He suggests that one should start acquiring qualities, such as teamwork, by participating in various activities, the right attitude of perceiving things around and ability to initiate during college days. The way to excellence is through the pavement of skills development.

Words of Wisdom for Youth by the founder of Yuvalay

Mr. Patel says that-“World is full of opportunities, you just need to find the correct path and walk on it with a clear mindset. What you are doing today will shape your tomorrow”.
